What’s the deal with my skin?

What’s the deal with my skin?

5th September 2021

Lots of people associate spots with their period, but did you know that all of the phases of the cycle contribute to how your skin looks and feels? If you didn’t know, you’re not alone – only 37% of people know that their skin is impacted by hormonal fluctuations. The next time that something feels different, it might be your hormones behind it.

Skin a little oily?

In your Reset phase, the skin barrier becomes more permeable, which means that it’s easier for external particles such as oil, dirt, and pollution to get in, especially if you live in an urban area. Alongside being more oily, you might end up with a few spots.

Sometimes just a bit of mattifying powder is enough, but if you want some extra help reducing your oiliness in this phase, you can try our Seeking Clarity Plumping and Purifying CBD serum.

Feeling spotty?

This is the classic symptom that people associate with their cycle, but spots aren’t actually linked directly to your period. They happen right before, in the Reset phase, when your progesterone and oestrogen levels are peaking.

There’s nothing wrong with having spots – we’ve all been there. If you want some help tackling your extra oil, you can try our Spot the Difference Anti-Blemish Serum.

Got that extra glow?

If you’re feeling super confident and glowing from within, you’re in your Transform or Soar phase, which is when your skin barrier is at its best and working hardest. Oestrogen is rising in your body, and your skin is producing lots of hyaluronic acid and collagen – yes, your body does make those classic skincare buzzwords naturally.

You won’t have to do much to get your skin looking its best at this time, but you might want to maintain that glow. Our Get Up & Glow serum can help brighten the skin even more with anti-pollution Vitamin C and hydrating CBD.

Drier than expected?

You’re in the Flow stage of your cycle, which is when your period takes place. The oestrogen and progesterone in your body are at their lowest, and your skin barrier is struggling to do its job as well as usual. Lots of people associate their period with spots and oiliness, but it tends to be dryness that takes place alongside your actual bleed.

The skin on your face isn’t the only skin that matters – your vulva is impacted by your cycle too. As your body moves towards the end of your cycle in the Transform phase, the reduction in oestrogen can lead to irritation and itchiness down there.

Our Thirst Trap serum is designed specifically for dry period skin, helping you get that boost that you need. We’ve also created a special vulva serum, I Touch Myself, to help you soothe irritated skin around your vulva. Level up your self-care and take on that period dryness.
